SALT LAKE CITY – April 19 marks Patriot’s Day, which honors the day militia members fought British soldiers in the battles of Lexington and Concord, and on Saturday a crowd gathered at the Utah State Capitol to celebrate the anniversary of those battles.

About 100 people were on the steps of the Capitol, and many carried guns and signs demonstrating various political viewpoints.

Activist Troy Taylor said gun rights are among the issues important to many who attended.

“I think every woman has the right and should stand up for themselves and should carry, any woman that is legally able to own firearms should own firearms for their own protection and their families’ protection,” he said.

This is the 239th anniversary of the battles at Lexington and Concord, which is where the famous “shot heard round the world” was fired at the opening of the American Revolution.
