SALT LAKE CITY -- Thursday kicked off the first day of the Comic Con FanXperience in downtown Salt Lake City, and thousands of people are expected to attend the three-day event.

The Salt Palace Convention Center plays host to the event, which continues Friday and Saturday. Click here for details about times and tickets.

Misty Pows was one of the many at the center Thursday.

“I like seeing the costumes and everything because it gives us a chance to geek out and have fun as a family,” she said.

Quaid Green was also at the event.

“I like the people because we're all nerds here, so we have fun,” she said. “It’s great. Everyone wants to take pictures of each other and just play around.”

The expo will feature panel discussions, costume contests, and celebrities like the original green Power Ranger.

“I’m excited to be here because I like to be around something that’s positive, where every fan can leave and have a great experience,” said Jason David Frank, who starred as the original green Power Ranger.

Gov. Gary Herbert also got in the superhero mood and declared April 17 Comic Con Heroes Day in Utah.

“I’m happy to do anything that puts Utah in a good light and promotes our economic opportunities,” Herbert said.

Comic Con also has a super human impact on the local economy.

“It has a significant ripple effect throughout the economy and the publicity, this will be broadcasted hinder and yon and people will see what Utah is all about and have a desire to come here and vacation,” Herbert said.
