SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Several residents rallied Saturday to express their displeasure with a proposed change to the golf course in their area.

Protesters were outside Mulligans Golf and Games, 692 West 10600 South, and they said they are opposed to a plan from city officials that would scrap the course in favor of mixed use development planned around the FrontRunner line.

The golf course was privately owned until it was purchased by South Jordan about 10 years ago.

Protester Julie Holbrook said they are opposed to changes that would eliminate open spaces.

“Mulligans is open space,” she said. “The city bought this in 2004 for open space. That’s why we bought our homes there, because we knew it would be open space, but now they’re changing their mind, and we don’t think that’s right.”

Holbrook said she and others aren’t opposed to transportation oriented development, but she said the golf course should be off limits for the sake of homeowners and wildlife in the area.
