The Utah Department of Transportation has announced a series of road construction projects will begin next month to improve I-15 in southern Davis County.
The construction will affect parts of I-15 between the north I-215 interchange and the interchange to U.S. 89 in Farmington. UDOT plans to:
- Add ExpressLanes to I-15 in both directions from the north I-215 interchange to U.S. 89/Park Lane in Farmington
- Replace the aging bridges at 2600 S, 1500 S, 500 S and 400 N
- Reconfigure the interchanges at 2600 S and 500 S in Bountiful to improve mobility
- Improve active transportation with better pedestrian facilities at 500 S and 400 in Bountiful
- Add a pedestrian bridge at Parrish Ln. in Centerville
According to UDOT, all lanes of traffic will be open, albeit narrowed, during commuter hours for the duration of the project. One full overnight closure is planned.
The I-15 ExpressLane and bridge construction phases of the project are expected to be complete in December 2014. Construction on the 2600 S and 500 S interchanges is expected to continue through the summer of 2015.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, such as Legacy Highway, U.S. 89 and Redwood Rd, or try mass transit options like FrontRunner.
Residents living nearby the construction areas should expect additional noise, light and some nighttime work.
UDOT has contracted with W.W. Clyde Co. for the $117 million construction project.
Pre-construction work has already begun in some areas, but the project officially begins on April 10th.
