SALT LAKE CITY – A seed of disapproval that took root in a Utah classroom flowered into a larger movement, and now Utah leaves one tree behind in order to embrace another.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert signed legislation Wednesday that makes the Aspen Utah’s state tree, replacing the Colorado Blue Spruce.

Herbert signed the bill at Monroe Elementary School. A class of fourth grade students at the school pushed for the change.
