If you're scrambling or feeling overwhelmed by the documents and information you need to submit for your tax return, the IRS has some tips to make sure you meet that April 15 deadline.

IRS spokesman Bill Brunson said the best way to file taxes is electronically.

"Here in Utah we expect about 1.2 million to file a federal income tax return," Brunson said. "Of that number... slightly more than 1 million will choose to electronically file."

Filing online is not only safe, but more secure than filing a paper return. Brunson said if you choose to have direct deposit, it can't get lost or stolen.

Once you've finished filing your taxes and realize you can't afford to cut the IRS a check, don't worry. You have options.

"You can make a payment arrangement online if you can't make a full pay for the money that you owe, or you can call the IRS ans we'll work out a payment arrangement," Brunson said.

If you can't get all your paperwork together by the April 15 deadline, you can request and extension.
