SALT LAKE CITY –The Vice President of the Utah Headliners Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists sent a letter to officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints requesting they allow journalists to bring cameras on to Temple Square during the LDS Church’s semi-annual General Conference.

The letter states: “The journalists of this state want to tell the many stories arising from General Conference and to do so accurately, with balance and in all the other best practices of journalism. Video and still photography are vital tools to accomplish those goals.”

In the letter, Vice President Lisa Carricaburu states they understand the LDS Church has ownership of Temple Square and said they do not challenge that, rather:  “The Headliners only seek what the church has routinely allowed in the past: cameras free to enter Temple Square and tell the story of General Conference.”

LDS Church Spokesman Cody Craynor provided the following statement to FOX 13 News when contacted about the letter: “The Church has received the letter and is reviewing it.”

FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
