More than 100 missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are being moved out of Venezuela because of the country’s civil unrest, officials announced Monday.

The LDS Church transferred 152 missionaries who were not Venezuelan citizens to other missions in South America, according to the statement. Venezuelan missionaries are in frequent communication with their mission presidents and every effort is being made to keep them safe.

For the past month protesters have stood up against government forces that have left  at least 23 people dead nationwide and more than 200 people injured since the demonstrations started, according to a CNN report March 14.
