RIVERTON -- A cheer squad made up of 15 girls with Down syndrome from a Riverton school will compete in a national cheer completion today in Salt Lake City.

The girls from Elite Academy call themselves “The Angels.”

Cheer Coach Morgan Brian said the school has been doing the program for three years.

Briand said it helps to build the girls’ confidence and thinks it gives others the opportunity to see they are not different from everyone else.

“I think it is very important for them to get this chance because not everybody looks at them the same and when they get to go out there and they get to be cheerleaders and they get to be the star of show I think it really helps their confidence and it really gives them something to be excited about,” Brian said.

The Angels will be  performing at the Salt Palace.
