SALT LAKE CITY -- A House Special Investigative Committee has released its final report after an investigation into allegations against former Utah Attorney General John Swallow.

According to a summary of the report, the committee concluded that Swallow, who resigned in early December 2013, "hung a veritable 'for sale' sign on the Office door that invited moneyed interests to seek special treatment and favors" and "engaged in the fabrication and elimination of documents and data or data devices."

House Speaker Becky Lockhart spoke about the investigation after the committee presented it's report.

“Investigating a duly elected official is the most serious task the House can do," Lockhart said. “We spent more than 4 million dollars [...] but we cannot put a price on trust."

The report is nearly a foot thick, complete with thousands of pages of exhibits, and includes:

  • Allegations of Swallow’s efforts to benefit himself, his friends and political supporters while he was in office related to Jeremy Johnson, the payday lending industry, the Bank of America foreclosure and Tim and Jennifer Bell;
  • Swallow’s alleged fabrication and elimination of evidence to impede the legislature’s investigation into misconduct;
  • Things the legislative investigators looked into but were not fruitful or they ceased to find because of time;
  • Things for the Utah State Legislature to consider in the future.
