SALT LAKE CITY – Utahns ascended 18 flights of steps over and over again Saturday, and their exertions were part of an effort to help people breathe easier.

The annual Fight for Air Climb was held at the Zions Bank Building in downtown Salt Lake City, and the annual event sponsored by the American Lung Association aims to raise money and awareness for those with lung diseases.

Participants, including several firefighters, competed for the fastest climb to the top.

The funds raised at the event are given to local organizations—like Camp Wyatt, which is a camp in Utah for children who have asthma.

Glenn Lanham of the American Lung Association said many of those who came were climbing for someone they know who has a lung condition.

He said: “And that's what we ask everybody: ‘Who are you climbing for? Are you climbing for a grandma, or a mom, or a dad?’”

The event is held each year on the last Saturday in February. For more information, visit the American Lung Association’s website.
