MAGNA, Utah -- The Unified Police Department has asked for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl Thursday afternoon.

According to a UPD press release, the girl was walking home from school near 3500 S 8900 W around 1:15 when a man driving a baby blue mini-van pulled up beside her and told her to come to the vehicle.

The victim thought the man may have been someone her family knows and started to walk toward the van.

The suspect got out of the van, grabbed the girl's arm and started to pull her toward the vehicle. The victim screamed and the suspect let her go, then ran back to the van and fled in an unknown direction.

The victim ran home and notified police.

The suspect was described as a Caucasian male with a goatee, 30-40 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 300 pounds. He was wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball cap with flames on the side.

He was driving an older style baby blue mini-van with no side windows except on the driver and front passenger doors.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identity or other information that may help police solve the case is asked to call the Unified Police Department at (385) 468-9837.
