COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — Three vehicles were stolen early Monday morning while running and left unattended, according to Cottonwood Heights Police.

All cars were stolen within a two and half hour time period.

“These thefts all occurred within a fairly short distance all along Fort Union corridor – two at an apartment and one at a residence,” said Sgt. Dave Broadhead with Cottonwood Heights Police.

While vehicle thefts are common, Broadhead said, it is uncommon to have three stolen so close in time and proximity.

Police don’t have leads on any suspect information at this time.

“More than likely this involves an auto-theft ring that is actively looking for these types of situations,” Broadhead said. “We want to remind residents that leaving your car warming up unattended is just an invitation for your car to get stolen.”

Broadhead encourages residents to leave for their destinations early and warm their cars up while inside it.

“Be vigilant and don’t let yourself become a victim,” he said.

The vehicles taken have not been located at this point. Police are looking for a silver Honda Accord with Texas license plates, a grey Nissan Altima and a white Accura TSX, both is Utah plates.
