MALAD, Idaho – A postmaster has been charged with felony grand theft after he allegedly made a false report about being robbed and stole mail and cash.

According to an email from Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad, Bradley David Hunter initially reported Tuesday morning he had been threatened by a male with a handgun who asked for a specific package from the post office.

Officers were on scene “in less than a minute and neither observed anyone leaving the post office as they responded.”

Investigators searched Hunter’s home and found mail that had been taken from the post office. Hunter allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the email, which was recovered.

Hunter is being held on multiple misdemeanor drug and traffic violations in addition to the charges relating to the theft of mail.
