GRIZZLY GULCH, Utah – A skier was almost fully buried in snow after triggering an avalanche in the Brighton backcountry Friday afternoon.

According to information from the Utah Avalanche Center, the human-triggered slide was on the northwest facing portion of Grizzly Gulch.

Officials tweeted that the skier was almost fully buried but was “OK”. The skiers gear was lost. Officials used twitter to encourage people to be cautious, “Remember that rescuers put their lives on the line to evac those in avalanche terrain.”

Recent winter weather has brought about a high level of avalanche danger in Utah, and experts who spoke to FOX 13 News said the escalated danger is likely to remain that way through December.
