Utah group accepts, replies to letters to Santa in Braille

SALT LAKE CITY --  A local organization is helping blind children embrace the Christmas season by giving them a place to send their letters to Santa, which are written in Braille.

The Utah Foundation for the Blind is offering the service for the second year in a row; children can send their letters to Santa, and they get a letter in response.

Tony Jepson is the executive director of the Utah Foundation for the Blind, and he said the program is a positive one.

“For these young kids to know that they can Braille a letter to Santa and receive a Braille letter back from him, it helps their self-esteem and helps them feel like they are like everyone else,” he said.

The organization has received letters from as far away as Alaska and Wisconsin, and they ensure each letter gets a reply.
