SALT LAKE CITY — Mandatory action is needed to combat this weekend’s poor air quality in the Salt Lake and Davis Counties, according to the Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ released a three-day forecast stating the air quality will be unhealthy for sensitive groups. These groups include the elderly, young children and those with weak immune systems.

“Persons with existing heart or respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor activity during the mid-morning and afternoon hours,” according to the DEQ website.

Open burning is not allowed. This includes fire pits, fire rings and campfires. The website also states that residents should carpool.
