(CNN) — Netflix will premiere a behind-the-scenes look chronicling the Presidential aspirations of Republican Mitt Romney.

The subscription screening service will continue its original documentary series with “Mitt,” airing exclusively on Netflix January 24. The film will debut a week prior at the Sundance film festival in Salt Lake City.

Netflix said director Greg Whiteley was given “unprecedented access” to Romney and his family.

“Greg Whiteley’s ‘Mitt’ provides viewers a surprising level of access into a fascinating world,” said Lisa Nishimura, vice president of Original Documentary and Comedy at Netflix, in a press release about the film.

“This rare inside look at Mitt Romney and his family as he runs for President showcases a unique kind of storytelling, one which takes the viewer well beyond the politics. We are thrilled to be providing our viewers with this one-of-a-kind film from such a talented filmmaker.”

The documentary chronicles Romney’s political journey beginning at Christmas 2006 and through his failed bid to win the Republican nomination in 2008 and into the results of his 2012 general election loss to Barack Obama.

“It feels like a full circle moment to premiere this movie at Sundance,” said Whiteley. “I first met and filmed the Romney family in Park City in 2006 as they gathered to discuss whether Mitt should run for President. Over the next seven years, I couldn’t believe I was filming inside rooms and situations I had no business being in. Now that I’ve finished, I couldn’t be more pleased to share this experience with audiences around the world through Netflix.”

Romney, a business executive and former Massachusetts governor, has largely stayed out of the political spotlight since Obama’s reelection.
