SALT LAKE CITY -- A woman was killed Wednesday on I-80 after she got out of a vehicle parked on the side of the road and was then struck by several vehicles.

Utah Highway Patrol officials later identified the victim as 39-year-old Darcey Bulloch of Orem.

Lt. Mike Loveland of the Utah Highway Patrol said two women were driving eastbound on I-80 when the passenger, Bulloch, became adamant about getting out of the car. The driver pulled over, fearing the passenger, who was reportedly intoxicated, might get out of the car while it was moving.

Bulloch ran across three lanes of traffic on I-80, where she was hit by upward of six cars and died.

"Reports we have right now is she was quite intoxicated, and I don't know what else spurred her to run across I-80, I don't know," Loveland said.

The accident occurred at about 6:15 p.m., and Utah Department of Transportation officials tweeted at about 6:20 p.m. that eastbound I-80 was closed at Redwood Road. The road was reopened around 9:30 p.m.
