ALPINE -- Students at Timberline Middle School in Alpine recited the entire Gettysburg Address from memory.

The students learned the words in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the famous speech given by President Abraham Lincoln.

“When I was learning it I had it constantly going through my head every day,” said eighth-grader Maren Burgess.

The history student memorized the 272 words for extra credit.

By the end of it the students say they learned a lot more than just the text -- they learned the meaning behind the words.

“I think it's very powerful,” said eighth-grader Ireland Hacking.
