Plane sets down in field after engine fails

Posted

WEST HAVEN, Utah – Authorities responded after a small plane experienced trouble and had to make an emergency landing in a field in West Haven Saturday.

Weber County Dispatch officials said the plane touched down in a field near 1940 S. 2725 West.

Sheriff’s deputies said the pilot of the single-prop plane was approaching the Ogden-Hinckley Airport when he experienced engine failure.

“Five miles out he started having engine failure and wasn’t going to be able to make it to the Ogden airport, so this was the best place he could find to put the plane down safely,” said Sgt. Mike Streker of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

The pilot was able to set the plane down fairly gently, and he was not injured.
