WAYNE COUNTY, Utah – Search and rescue crews helped a Boy Scout leader who was injured during a hike in Canyonlands National Park.

A group of scouts from Castle Rock, Colorado, were hiking and rappelling in Horseshoe Canyon, which is east of Hanksville.

Authorities said 29-year-old Wayne Joseph South Jr. tried to free himself after getting stuck in a crevasse, and he slipped and twisted his arm.

The man was rescued Saturday morning around 1:30 a.m. by officials with the Department of Public Safety as well as Garfield and Wayne county search and rescue teams.
