ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State University president Stephen Nadauld announced he’s retiring at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

Nadauld is credited with transitioning the former college into a university, and he is someone the Board of Trustees said will be hard to replace.

Nadauld took over the helm of Dixie State in 2008. During his tenure, the university has seen tremendous growth. Among those accomplishments is an unprecedented growth in enrollment, the addition of 15 baccalaureate degrees, and the renovation of several buildings on campus.

“We’ve done a lot in the five or six years,” Nadauld said. “Certainly becoming a University being at the top of that list.”

Nadauld said those accomplishments are what makes it a very difficult job to walk away from.

“This has been the most satisfying professional experience that you can possibly imagine,” he said.

Those changes are also the reason Steve Caplin, Board of Trustees chair, said Nadauld will be difficult to replace.

“When we were at our challenging time with reduced state budgets in higher education, he sharpened his pencil and found a way to not only retain faculty, but to grow it,” Caplin said. “So we’re looking for someone who can do all of that and then some.”

Nadauld is retiring at the end of the school year, but he announced it now to give the Board of Regents time to find his replacement.
