UTAH COUNTY, Utah –The Utah Department of Transportation is proposing some changes to the Pony Express Parkway.

The proposed changes include widening the road between 800 West and Redwood Road in order to add a middle turn lane.

The proposal would also install a traffic light at 200 West as well as extending bike trails in the area. Residents said some of the changes are long overdue, but other residents said plans are proceeding too quickly.

“Once you put in a light, it’s a permanent fixture,” Eagle Mountain Resident Becky Jones said. “If we started with a three-way stop, or some other alternative, then maybe we could move toward a light, but having a light, right off, is a concern for me.”

UDOT officials presented their plans during an open house Wednesday night, and they took feedback from residents on the project. Officials said they hope to begin construction on the project in the summer of 2014.
