PROVO, Utah — A man crossing Highway 189 on foot was hit by a car and killed Tuesday night, Utah Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash occurred at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon. Troopers arrived on the scene at approximately 9 p.m.

Troopers said the 74-year-old victim was from Evanston, Wyoming. The man was using a truck to haul a trailer and had pulled over on the side of the road to fix a flat tire. Troopers said the man walked across the highway for unknown reasons, which is when the accident occurred.

Troopers said the man was hit by a small car in one lane, and then he was hit again by a truck.

The name of the victim has not been released, as authorities are still contacting his family.
