LIHUE, HI – A convicted sex offender who fled Utah was arrested in Hawaii Friday on charges he violated his parole.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Michael Gary Nielsen, 51, of Taylorsville at a residence on Haleilio Road in Kapaa, Hawaii.

According to a press release from Deputy U.S. Marshal Donna Diaz, Nielsen was allegedly living under the alias Russell Pearson.

Nielsen was arrested in 2002 and convicted on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child in the first degree, one count of violation of protective order and one count of tampering with a witness/juror, according to the press release. The female victim was a family member who was 8-years-old at the time of the alleged incident.

A warrant for Nielsen’s arrest was issued in September of 2012, charging Nielsen for parole violation. Nielsen has been transported to the Kauai Police Station for booking, and a court appearance and extradition to Utah is pending.
