PROVO, Utah -- Utah quarterback Travis Wilson threw for 273 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Utes to a 20-13 win over BYU.

Wilson’s first touchdown pass went to Anthony Denham to give the Utes a 13-nothing lead at halftime. He later connected with Karl Williams for his second touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to put the Utes up 20-6.

BYU’s offense had 443 yards of total offense, but the Utah defense allowed just one touchdown, a one-yard run from Michael Alisa in the fourth quarter that cut Utah’s lead to seven.

BYU quarterback Taysom Hill tried to complete the comeback, but an incomplete pass turned the ball over on downs with 2:39 to play, and a Micheal Walker interception sealed the victory for the Utes.

Utah wide receiver Dres Anderson had eight receptions for 141 yards, and running back James Poole had 18 carries for 96 yards.

Hill threw for 260 yards and he ran for 99. BYU wide receiver Cody Hoffman finished with eight receptions  for 108 yards.

BYU running back Jamaal Williams left the game in the third quarter on stretcher, and was talked to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to check for left shoulder and spine injuries.

Utah is now 3-1, and BYU is 1-2.

The rivalry series is on hiatus until Sept. 10, 2016. The teams will play at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 9, 2017 and at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Nov. 24, 2018.

Prior to this game, the Cougars and Utes have played a total of 88 times and Utah holds the overall series record of 53-31-4, according to a press release from BYU.
