SYRACUSE, Utah — A fire broke out in the bank of a Syracuse home Saturday afternoon, displacing the family.

Crews said there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the home when they arrived on the scene at 1789 S. 3720 West. The fire spread from the main floor up into the attic.

A mother and her son were home at the time and were able to get out safely. It took firefighters about an hour to put the fire out.

“We had the most fire damage on the upstairs, it’s a three-story home, on the third story of the home down into the second level and the attic and the roof,” said Fire Chief Eric Frorer, Syracuse Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Crews estimate the damage to be between $200,000 and $250,000, but said the family should be able to salvage many items.
