SALT LAKE CITY -- Thousands of people and even more dogs came out for the Strut Your Muttevent at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City Saturday.

Organizers said the event had more than 2,000 people, which makes it the largest Strut Your Mutt turnout ever in Salt Lake City.

The fundraising event, hosted by Best Friends Animal Society, aims to raise money to help end the killing of healthy animals in shelters because they have no place to call home.

"There are a lot of animals that sadly die in the shelters and we're trying to save them all. We're trying to rescue them, with the help of many other people, find homes for them, and just stop the fact that animals have to die in shelters because there are no homes for them," said Gregory Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society.

The event included a one mile walk and family friendly festival activities. More than a dozen local animal organizations participated in this year.
