LAYTON, Utah – An infant hospitalized from injuries consistent with being shaken has died, and police are requesting a child abuse charge against the man accused of shaking the baby be amended.

Tyler Ryan Geary, 25, is accused of shaking his girlfriend’s child last week, and police said Wednesday the child had died Tuesday night.

Geary and the child’s mother took the baby to Primary Children’s Medical Center last week, and Geary was arrested and faced child abuse charges.

According to a press release from the Layton City Police Department, detectives have requested the charges against Geary be amended to child abuse homicide. According to the release, the Davis County Attorney’s Office will wait for the results of an autopsy before working with a judge to screen charges in the case.
