SALT LAKE CITY – Hundreds of Utahns came out to support a local monastery at the Carmelite Fair Sunday, and the event included food, dancing, games and a 5K run.

The run is in its fourth year, and it’s called Run for the Nuns. Much of the financial support for the Carmelite Monastery is raised at the annual fair.

Carmelite Fair Chairman Lou Bertram said the money they raise goes toward keeping the monastery open and operating.

“That will be the main bulk of the money that is going to help the sisters keep the monastery going, pay the plumbing, pay the electrical, pay the roofing, pay insurance,” he said.

The monastery is located at 5714 South Holladay Blvd. In 2012, the nuns celebrated 60 years in Utah.
