SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City residents will vote by mail to share their opinion  regarding an argument the U.S. Supreme Court accepted as law in 2010.

The ballots have already arrived at some voter’s mailboxes, and others will be receiving theirs in the coming days.

They are opinion ballots, which essentially makes them a city-sanctioned poll. Voters will indicate whether or not they agree with the Citizens United decision, which allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on political issues. Regardless of the result, the vote will not create any tangible changes to law.

Ballots must be mailed by 5 p.m. on September 26 in order to be counted.
