WEST VALLEY CITY – A road in West Valley has been renamed to honor Cesar Chavez.

Chavez co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which would later become the United Farm Workers Union.

Chavez is the most well-known Latino American civil rights activist of the 20th century. Utah State Senator Karen Mayne said renaming the street serves as a reminder of the need to respect all workers.

“It’s like a puzzle of life,” Mayne said. “Everybody has a piece of the puzzle, and whether you are surgeon, or you are a craftsman, or you are a landscaper for your community—we need all those pieces to make us whole.”

The street formerly named 2320 South is now Cesar Chavez Drive from 1000 West to Redwood Road.
