FARMINGTON, Utah — The man accused of brutally abusing and killing his 4-year-old stepson is expected to enter a formal plea in court Tuesday.

Nathan Sloop and his wife Stephanie are both accused of abusing Ethan Stacy so badly in 2010 that he died.

Sloop was ordered to stand trial for the murder in July of this year after his attorney’s tried arguing against “Shelby’s Law,” which would allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty against him.
