SALT LAKE CITY –A man was taken into custody Tuesday night after several hours of barricading himself in a Salt Lake City home.

At approximately 5 p.m. Salt Lake City Police got a call that a 30-year-old man was waving a gun around in a Maverick at 400 S. Redwood Road.

The man, identified as Christopher Larry Woodard, left the area in a car, allegedly still waving the gun. Police followed the Woodard to a house, 319 S. 1065 West, where he went inside.

Police said they could see other people in the home. After about 10 minutes two women and four to five children left the house and spoke with the officers.

Police said the people inside the house knew Woodard. Officers remained in contact with him for several hours.

Police reportedly released a pepper spray chemical into the house and were able to apprehend the suspect.

Woodard was booked into jail and now faces several charges including theft, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
