Kearns neighborhood no longer on lockdown

KEARNS –A Kearns community is no longer on lockdown.

Unified Police created a perimeter around the neighborhood as they searched for a man who reportedly burglarized a man’s home and took a gun from the resident.

The suspect is still on the loose, officials said.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. a Kearns man heard a noise coming from the upstairs of his home, located on the 4300 West block of 5900 South.

When victim arrived upstairs with a gun, Unified Police spokesman Det. Jared Richardson, said a man was unplugging electronics.

Richardson said the two men got into a tussle and the resident shot at the victim. It is unknown at this point if the suspect was shot.

Richardson said the suspect took the gun from victim and escaped.
