SALT LAKE CITY -- A group of Utah organization leaders and local church officials took part in an immigration reform meeting Tuesday to discuss a pathway to citizenship.

Fall recess in congress began Friday, so supporters of the event wanted to make their voices heard while Utah congressmen are home.

Several immigration organizations and the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake were there to urge representatives Jim Matheson and Rob Bishop to act in favor of humane immigration reform.

"We can't afford to just think, you know, this is just a community event and it's not going to get us anywhere, because the alternative is doing nothing and I think that's irresponsible and it shows resignation and we don't need to resign right now," Diana Paredes, coordinator for the Enriching Utah Coalition, said. "We just need to continue fighting. Get together, get the message out there and encourage others to join."

Utah's representatives Matheson and Bishop have yet to voice their stance on a pathway to citizenship for Utah's aspiring Americans.
