WEST JORDAN -- Roads remain closed while crews continue work to repair power lines that went down Monday afternoon.

Farmer Ron Jones was harvesting wheat when the microburst hit at about 2 p.m. Monday.

The wind was blowing bad, Jones said.

“Big microburst came through, and I heard a crack and I turned around and they were falling like dominoes,” Jones said of the power poles.

The storm downed 37 power poles in addition to an undetermined number of distribution poles.

More than 3,000 customers served by the Copper Hills substation lost power for about 45 minutes.

Even though the power has been re-routed through other transmission lines, Rocky Mountain Power officials say the downed lines may receive power intermittently.

S.R. 111 is closed form 8400 South to 10200 South while crews work to repair the lines. New Bingham Highway is also closed from 5600 West to Copperton.

Anyone traveling to Kennecott will have to take the Old Bingham Highway.

The power company’s top priority is to make sure the damaged lines are grounded and out of service.
