SALT LAKE CITY – A man and woman are facing federal charges after they allegedly used credit cards stolen from a Riverton woman’s wallet in a brazen daylight robbery.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Jason Oler Kettler, 35, of Magna and Chaunte Marie Thompson, 31, of Salt Lake City are charged in a federal complaint with one count of using an unauthorized access device—in this case a credit card.

Kettler allegedly stole the credit cards from a Riverton woman in a brazen daylight burglary carried out while the victim was mowing her lawn. Kettler and Thompson allegedly used the stolen credit cards to make about $1,037.23 in purchases at a Sportsman’s Warehouse in Midvale and a Nike Store in West Jordan.

The pair was identified after police received multiple tips after they released surveillance images of the pair.

The two were scheduled to appear before a judge regarding the charges Wednesday at 3 p.m. The case is being investigated by the Utah Identity Theft Task Force, which is made up of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
