SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity celebrated a milestone Saturday as they dedicated their 90th home.

The organization celebrated the event by handing over the keys to the new home to Mesert Demke and her family.

Demke came to the U.S. from Ethiopia more than 9 years ago after she received death threats from the government there. She has been through many struggles, but Habitat for Humanity was able to make things easier for her.

Ed Blake, executive director of Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity, said they were happy to help.

“She’s someone who has really gone through a hard life, and she said she was always crying nine years ago because she was sad and today she’s crying because she’s happy,” Blake said.

Blake said they couldn’t have built the 90 homes throughout the years without the help of countless volunteers. To learn more about Habitat for Humanity, click here.
