TOOELE -- An open house was held Monday for a state of the art solar biosolids processing facility that has opened in Tooele.

The Tooele Water Reclamation Facility was named one of the top 10 water and wastewater projects in the USA by Water & Wastes Digest.

It was also recognized as the Outstanding Biosolids Program for the State of Utah by the Water Environment Association of Utah.

The solar process at the facility is the first of its kind in North America. Biosolids are conveyed into the building, where they are dried in a greenhouse-like area.

The process produces an easily transported, dry granule that can be sold to the public as a soil conditioner, according to Water & Wastes Digest.
