HILL AIR FORCE BASE – Civilian employees at Hill Air Force Base will be furloughed up to 11 days of work until September 21st due to sequestration.

Approximately 11,000 civilian employees were given notice of this in late June.

The furlough was an unavoidable result after a $37 billion cut in defense spending that was triggered by sequestration, according to a statement sent from Hill AFB.

The impacts of the furlough are said to be felt across the installation because Hill AFB civilian employees make up around two thirds of the “total team” workforce.

The financial loss each employee will feel is equivalent to a 20% reduction in pay during the furlough period and is approximately $34 million in lost pay for the Base’s employees.

The first furlough day at the base will be Friday.
