DENVER — For all of the former Aaron Hernandez fans out there, the New England Patriots are willing to make you a deal.

The Patriots announced Friday that the team will offer a free exchange of any Hernandez No. 81 or No. 85 jersey for a different jersey of comparative value. The offer is available July 6 and 7 to fans who purchased their Hernandez jersey at the Patriots ProShop in Foxborough, Mass., or through the team’s online shop.

Hernandez, 23, was a starting tight end with the team until he was arrested on murder charges last week. The Patriots released him when the news broke.

“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” Patriots spokesperson Stacey James told NFL.com. “We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”

Fan response seemed mostly positive online, though some fans expressed concerns that the Patriots were in effect convicting Hernandez before his trial has even started.
