SALT LAKE CITY – Emergency crews put out a large fire at apartments in Salt Lake City Sunday.

The blaze was at the Park Apartments at 756 North 900 West. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters said it is still too dangerous for investigators to enter parts of the building.

Witnesses said they heard an explosion just before the fire started, but investigators said they weren't aware of that. The building is three stories tall and has 30 apartments in it, and as of now it is unclear how many units were damaged by the flames.

Jasen Asay, Salt Lake City Fire Department, said the fire was called in as a three-alarm fie, partly because of the hot weather.

"Just because of the heat, the high temperatures outside and inside of the building, so obviously the firefighters that are inside the building are going to be sweating a lot, they're going to be facing a lot of heat, so we wanted to make sure that we had plenty of firefighters here to rotate," he said.

All of those inside were evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Teresa Zundel of the Red Cross said they are helping the displaced families, of which there are nine so far. She said they are providing them with food, clothing and other short-term essentials. Zundel said there are caseworkers from the Red Cross at the main office of the apartment complex to help residents.
