OGDEN, Utah – A unique summer camp for school children is letting kids get involved in robotics.

Rainie Ingram is the recruitment coordinator for the College of Applied Science and Technology at Weber State University, and she said the Northern Utah Robotics (or Nubots) Summer Camp helps students learn about a variety of fields.

"Participating in the Nubots Robotics Camp helps students gain confidence in science, technology engineering and math—which will help them in the future to determine whether or not they want to pursue a career along those paths,” Ingram said.

Students ended their week at the camp with a robotics competition, which featured jousting robots. Champions Rachel Porter and Brenden Fougz said design was critical to their success.

"At first we were just messing around with it, and then after a while we started to find a certain kind of shape that looks like a tank I guess you could say, but we wanted to make a little slide on the bottom to make it so you could get under the robot and then try and push them off,” Fougz said.

Students said the camp was a fun opportunity to learn while making new friends.

There are two Northern Utah Robotics Summer Camps held each year. The next one begins this week, and any student entering ninth grade in the Ogden School District can sign up by contacting Ogden schools.
