SALT LAKE CITY — The president of the nation’s largest gay rights advocacy group gave a speech in Salt Lake City Saturday night, and he called on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support nationwide non-discrimination laws.

Chad Griffen is the president of the Human Rights Campaign, which is well-known for their yellow equality logo.

Griffen spoke at a fundraising gala, and during his speech he said the LDS church did the right thing by supporting a Salt Lake ordinance outlawing workplace discrimination. However, he said the LDS church should take a similar stand nationally.

“If the Golden Rule was good enough for Salt Lake City, then it ought to be good enough for everyone,” he said during his speech. “If you really do oppose discrimination, it’s time to stand up and say so.”
