SALT LAKE CITY – An upcoming caucus discussion could be the first official step in a process leading to the first impeachment in Utah history.

State House Majority Leader Brad Dee, R-Ogden, says the State House of Representatives will focus on the process of impeachment in case they gather to impeach John Swallow at a future special session.

They have not yet decided to go forward with impeachment, but are discussing how it might work.

Dee says they need to learn how much direction the Utah State Constitution gives on impeachment and how much they’d need to map out themselves.

“That’s why I say we have to enter this with an open mind because we have the ability as a House to either form a committee or a committee of the house as a whole that we can call witnesses and have testimony and subpoena. We can be looking at all of those things under the articles of impeachment. Whether we will or not, that’s to be seen, but the process we have to understand,” Dee said.
