SALT LAKE CITY — Every year a company called Versaterm gives back a portion of its earnings to the community, and this year the company donated to “The Friends For Unified Police K9.”

The friends for Unified Police K9 is a non-profit organization that helps provide dogs, training, bulletproof vests and gear to the Unified Police Department’s K9 unit.

Kimberly Vachon, Versaterm, presented the check Tuesday to Lt. Randy Thomas, and she said it means much more to be able to present the check in person.

“It is so gratifying to see where the money actually goes because to give back to the community, like I said, it is a huge extension of how we feel,” she said. “We’re committed to public safety. It’s people helping people in this business. It’s giving back to the law enforcement folks who are out there.”

In the last six months, the Friends For Unified Police K9 has already given the unit two untrained dogs, at a cost of $7,500 each.

Thomas said a portion of Tuesday’s donation will be going toward their new obstacle course that will help train the dogs.
