CLEVELAND – Lawyers for the man accused of holding three women captive in his Cleveland home said the man will plead not guilty.

Attorney Craig Weintraub said Ariel Castro is very different from the descriptions of him in news stories.

“Well, I think the initial portrayal by the media has been one of a ‘monster’ and that’s not the impression that I got when I talked to him for three hours,” he said. “I know that family members who have been interviewed by the media have expressed that.”

Castro is charged with kidnapping and raping Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

DNA tests have confirmed the 52-year-old man is the father of Berry’s child.

Castro’s brothers recently said they had no idea their brother was allegedly holding the women, and they said they would have reported it if they had known.
