SALT LAKE CITY — Police believe road rage may have been a factor in a car crash that took place on I-80 near State Street in Salt Lake City on Sunday morning.

Sgt. Nathan Croft, Utah Highway Patrol, said a woman was driving along when a car started to move into her lane, and as she swerved to avoid that car she hit the median. The wreck happened sometime around 11 a.m.

The driver of the car that nearly hit her did not stop, and witnesses said the driver was being very aggressive on the road prior to the crash. They said he or she was weaving in and out of traffic and forcing cars out of the way.

Croft said accidents caused by road rage aren’t uncommon.

“It happens all the time,” he said. “Just try and avoid them. You can call them into us if they’re reckless driving. We can see what we can do to find them.”

Croft said they do have a license plate number for the car that nearly hit the victim’s car, and they plan to contact the driver as part of their investigation into the accident.
